PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE
Provides an in-depth look at the basics, definition and characteristics of science to think scientifically and make scientific conclusions. The scope of study includes the philosophy and development of science, science and technology, value and science, sciences technology and art, science and ethics in engineering.
APPLIED MATHEMATICS
Develops skills in data analysis and decision analysis through quantiative and statistical approach, and as an overview of decision analysis for Master students. The scope of study includes basic statistics and probability (normal distribution function, average, deviation standard, coefficient of variation, range, variance, linear regression, smooting methods), modeling decisions (elements of decision problems, sensitivity analysis, creativity and decision structuring), modeling uncertainly (probability basics, subjective probability, theoritical probability models, Monte Carlo simulation), modeling preferences (risk attitudes, utility axioms, paradoxes and implications, conflicting objectives)
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
An introduction to general construction management. The scope of study includes the construction industry and practice, management in the engineering and construction industry, development and organization of projects, professional construction management in practice, the planning phase, the design phase, the bidding and award phase, the construction phase, application and controls and selecting a professional construction manager.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
LEGAL ASPECTS & PROJECT ADMINISTRATION
Introduces and analyzes the legal aspects of a project and prepare students to administrate a project. The scope of study includes construction contracting, insurance, bonds, negotiations and dispute resolution, cost estimating and bidding.
METHOD AND TECHNOLOGY OF CONSTRUCTION
Provides an understanding of construction work and technology in the construction industry, especially in buildings and bridges. The scope of study includes foundation work [bore piles, pre-cast concrete piles, etc.), basement work [retaining walls, strutting]. top-down and up-down construction methods, form-work technology, pre-cast concrete technology and construction methods for bridges.
PLANNING, SCHEDULING, CONTROLLING AND PROJECT COST MANAGEMENT
Provides an understanding of the total process of construction projects and methods that control quality, schedule, and project cost.
PROCUREMENT
Delivers advanced knowledge of planning, management, construction equipment, construction materials and all aspects of the construction methods of a project.
