On Wednesday, January 20th 2016, Universitas Pelita Harapan Communication Department, together with RTV (Rajawali Televisi), held Lensa Indonesia Goes to Campus UPH at UPH Building D Level 5. The program aims to introduce the profession of journalism to students. Eventhough it was journalist-themed, but the seminar and workshop was attended by all final year students including Journalism, Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC), and Public Relations.

Some of the speakers at this program were Makroen Sanjaya (Representative of Rtv), Michael Tjandra and team (Deputy Editor in Chief, News Anchor as well as a Senior Journalist), and Joni Marcos (Senior Journalist) who presented the theme Cinematography and Videography.

According to Fransiscus Hendy S., Section Head Marketing Off Air Rtv, this program was held to introduce the world of journalism, especially citizen journalism, to the students. This is because the current development enables everyone to be a journalist with limited equipments, and on an occasion like this, RTv wanted to share several tips and tricks to be a journalist, who despite having limited equipment, is still able to meet the standards of journalism. Aside from that, according to Franciscus, the reason RTv chooses to visit campus is because for him, university is an institution that must be directly adjacent to industries, including the media industry. Not only providing knowledge and experience, through this activity, Franciscus also informed the opportunities for UPH students who are interested in an internship at RTv. “I hope that this activity is able to foster interest in students to become journalists in the future. Hence why in this program, we do not only share information but we also encourage students to practice immediately. In the future, we are also interested to initiate a further cooperation with UPH,” Franciscus said.

The seminar and workshop were divided into three sessions, preceded by Makroen Sanjaya as the main speaker. He explained about the television mapping in Indonesia. “It is important for all students who are aiming to directly work in the world of television to know the map of television, who has which station, as well as the ideology of every television owner, to determine whether it is in accordance with your work vision,” Makroen said, accompanied with elaboration regarding the development of television since the beginning, which was started by TVRI, until the way it is today.

Meanwhile, Michael Tjandra invited students who were present to immediately practice. He started from discussing how to find a valid interviewee in an incident like fire, how to ask questions in order to dig in-depth information, as well as how to perform a Live Report.

Last but not least, Jhoni Marcos explained about journalists in terms of cinematography and videography. “A journalist with limited equipment must still be able to provide descriptive, meaningful, and up-to-standard images through videography techniques,” Jhoni said. He shared a lot of knowledge on taking pictures or video, such as how to do the composition and picture-framing, several shooting position including extreme close-up, short shoot, medium shoot, extreme long shoot, and etc. Jhoni also described the appropriate angle for each photograph whether high, low, or eye angle, and he also explained the various techniques using other types of cameras

Through this activity, Carly Stiana Scheffer Sumampouw, Chairman of UPH Department of Communication, hopes that students will be able to absorb the knowledge given. Furthermore, Lensa Indonesia Goes to Campus program is part of the new course in the Department of Communication, namely Capstone. Capstone is a course which must be taken by all final-year students who have passed semester 1 to 7. This form of lecture given in an event like this, which will be continued up to the following weeks, present seminars and workshops from practitioners of a variety of industries to discuss themes that have actually been studied by students since the beginning of the semester. The Capstone course will later be ended by giving a final project to the students of Public Relations, IMC, and Journalism to create a campaign based on what has been learned and associate it with one of UPH?s visions, which is Faith in God.

For next week, Capstone will be continued with a seminar with SELULAR magazine with the theme ?Cyber Bullying? which will be held on January 27th, 2016. (mt/Ca)
