Pdt. Benny Solihin

Through this Christmas celebration, all of us were encouraged to respond towards the marginal people, or those in needs. This message was continuously delivered throughout the Christmas celebration with the words of God which was being told by Pdt. Benny Solihin. ?When Jesus came down to earth from Mary?s womb, He came as the incarnation of the marginal people. Jesus identifies himself through this small group of people, the marginal people, who were often ignored by many,? explained Pdt. Benny. Through this act of His, God has saved many people to welcome Jesus? arrival at the time and in fact, the boy in Mary?s womb is the Messiah. This kind of occurrence still happens around us, where most people would only care about the high-class people. Though Jesus had said, through Matthew 25:45-46 that if we serve people in sufferings, those in needs and who needs help, that means we also serve Jesus. This is what is pleasing before God and until His second arrival, in which he will separate the righteous and unrighteous or we can say too, the sheep and the goat, the righteous ones are people who are willing to serve the marginal people or those in needs. |
Jonathan L. Parapak
|
This sermon was also in line with what Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M. Eng.Sc., UPH rector, said through his opening speech which reminded us two things. Firstly, Jonathan reminded us that we are inside an institution which was built within idealism, thus we shall not corrupt it with our personal importance. We have to keep what God has given to us, and we can?t corrupt it in any way. Secondly, we have to possess the correct understanding of the word of God that we have faith in as our Savior, as the Bible says. ?I really hoped, what we had made as our commitment here in UPH, which is to become a Christ-Centered university, could be understood correctly and can be applied in our life as a true commitment. We also have to give our heart to serve, not just for this institution or even our own needs but again, just for the Glory of God,? said Jonathan.

Aileen Hambali Riady

These words of encouragement, was also explained by Aileen HambaliRiady, SPH International Associate Head of School, through a sharing about the underdeveloped education in Papua. She encouraged the whole of UPH academic community to care for them through various support, including funding and prayers. Some of the YPPH programs which were set for the Papua children were also shared, including a school addition in the Deboto region which was still very limited in terms of education, health, electricity and many other aspects. Now, SekolahLenteraHarapan (SLH) has been located in two places, Sentani and Mamit. And by cooperating with YPPH missionaries, together they will enhance the education and health services in Papua. ?Seeing all this, let us all pray together so that God will give an open heart for people who are called to care for Papua,? explained Aileen.
