UPH Business School held a coaching and mentoring session for high school teachers and leaders from all over Indonesia on March 10th, 2015 at HOPE hall, UPH Karawaci main campus. There were 80 teachers who participated in this session with ?Competitive Advantages in Education Services? as the theme. There were 2 sessions; Session 1 was delivered by Innocentius Bernarto, M.M., M.Si., marketing lecturer at UPH Business School and Session 2 was brought by Gracia Ugut, Ph.D., Executive Director of Lippo Education Initiatives. Then, as the final stage, the sessions were closed by a workshop in which all participants simulated the knowledge that they had gained on previous sessions.

On first session, Innocentius explained how an education institution could win the competition. ?Schools do not just take care the kids? cognitive yet must also nurture the school values. Henceforth, after graduation they could perform the good characters derived from school.? He also encouraged schools to brainstorm the values owned by them and then it will differentiate one school to another. This should be implemented through services toward kids and the parents. Moreover, Gracia who brought the second session with the ?Balanced Scorecard for School? topic  said that it was a continuation for the first session. After schools know their competitive advantages, they need to have clear strategic management skills to attain the vision. ?It is not enough to only know who the competitors are, we also have to understand what exactly we should do after that. That strategy then will be the answer of the landscape of competitiveness. So these two topics are literally relevant,? explained Gracia.

This coaching and mentoring session planned to be held for 4 times in a year with different theme. Grace Salim, the Administrative Director of UPH Business School, explained that through this program, UPH also participated in supporting government educational program, Pembimbingan Komunitas Masyarakat (PKM). According to the statistics, there are approximately 20 million high school students in Indonesia, however, could not be backed up by the insufficient amount of teachers, specifically high quality teachers, both in academics and school management. Grace also expected that there would be a synchronized strategy between schools and UPH Business School in the future.

The teachers were enthusiastically join the sessions. There were lots of questions and interactions with the speakers, even some directly registered for the June 2015 session. ?This event is definitely good for gaining us more knowledge and skills regarding the school management. The highlight of this session is we eventually know how to offer the best service for the entire school stakeholder,? commented Kristian Edi Mulyono, teacher from SMA Mondial Batam. In addition, Anastasya Hongarta as the Director of SMA Kalam Kudus Bali suggested that this same kind of event could be held outside Jakarta so more educators could benefit this event.
