Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa (BEM) Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), the Student Executive Council held a routine program by the Mass Contribution Department partnered with Indonesian Red Cross, Palang Merah Indonesia (PMI) Serang and UPH Medicine students. This program was held in 3 phases, started from March 10th, 2015, 11.00-15.00 at main campus UPH, March 12th, 2015 at UPH Medicine School and will be closed on March 15th, 2015 at Summarecon Digital Serpong (SDC). Annually, BEM executes two blood donation events which are available for internal as well as external parties of campus.
This event aims to nurture the humanitarianism among students and to encourage them to be actively involved in social actions. ?This is one way to help people who are in need. No need to visit a remote location since it is quite troublesome to arrange large amount of students to go off campus, for instance to the flood victim area. BEM UPH provided media for all friends to participate in a social action through this blood donation program. This way we could save more people like the theme, ?Be an Anonymous Hero?,? explained Nikolas, Head of Blood Donation 2, Mathematics-Management 2013.
The innovations for this event were the cholesterol and glucose checkups free for all donors and visitors. In addition, the sponsors also supported the events with free souvenirs and gifts.
Nikolas was also quite satisfied with this program. Besides they could reach beyond targeted donors of 250 blood packs, Blood Donation 2 also received positive response from the visitors. ?I routinely participate in this event every year. No pain at all, even I feel happier. The committees also work really well. However, I hope the waiting duration can be shortened. Overall, the program is good,? commented Steven Timothy, Management 2011.
There are 550 targeted donors for this series of events. Hopefully, the committees could serve all people who want to be the donors since based on observation, before 3 pm all the blood packs ran out already. Unfortunately, the rest of people who wanted to donor were not able to do one. This signified how high the enthusiasm of students, staffs, and lecturers of UPH for this event. (el)
