For high schools students of SMAK 2 (BPK Penabur), filling in their holidays by finding work experiences is a part of their learning process. Started on Monday (20/4) until Friday (24/4), five students from SMAK 2-Jakarta became interns in Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). These five students, Davin, Listiany Ruslim, Tri Darianto Putra, Handajani Putri, dan Linggih Saputro, had their opportunity to work in PR Department and The Johannes Oentoro Library UPH.
?There are a lot of experiences that I got from UPH such as learning how to be a Public Relations officer, I also attend some seminars held in the campus,? said Listi who work in PR Department.
PR Section Head of UPH, Rosse Hutapea, asserted that this internship activity is very beneficial to increase the students? knowledge about work environments and various proffesions. They can experience organizational communication with the senior staffs, as well as socialize in a new environment, she said.
The benefits were also experienced by Davin and Edo. ?For the first time I know what is media monitoring. In fact, monitoring the media is very important,? said Edo, who also planned to write about his working experience at UPH in his personal blog.
Agreeing with Rosse, The Johannes Oentoero Library, Esterina Jonatan stated, ? “It?s a pleasure for us as the library staff to share our knowledge, skills and experiences to the students. We are glad working together with them and are pleased that they got beneficial experiences when working at the Johannes Oentoro Library in a very short term (5 days).”
Aside from helping with UPH operational staffs? jobdesks, the interns also got to hang around the campus, visiting the different faculties and facilities in UPH. They visited TV and Radio Laboratorium, Food Technology Laboratorium, Chemistry Laboratorium, and also sport facilities such as swimming pool, basketball court, soccer field, and many others.
All the five students who dedicated their holidays by being interns, entirely agree that this internship experience is beneficial for their future, particularly in increasing their knowledge and skills.
