UPH Faculty of Medicine Won the 2nd Place for Cardiorespiratory Branch in RMO 2019.

Students of UPH Faculty of Medicine (FK UPH) achieved another accomplishment nearing the end of this year. This time, FK UPH participated in the Regional Medical Olympiad (RMO) 2019. Anthony Yusuf (batch 2017) and Jessica Anastasia (batch 2017) became the 2nd winner in Cardio-Respiratory category in RMO 2019. The competition was held at Atma Jaya Catholic University, Jakarta, August 23-25, 2019.

Anthony and Jessica have successfully competed along with other representatives from 17 universities, after going through three stages: Preliminary Round, Semifinal, and Final Round.

RMO itself is a prestigious annual medical olympiad held by the Indonesian Medicine Student Executive Board Association (ISMKI) in several regions of Indonesia. UPH is located in the second region, along with other medicine educational institutions around Jakarta, Banten, West Java, and West Kalimantan. RMO has 6 branches including Cardio-Respiratory, Digestive, Neuropsychiatry, Tropical Infection, Genitourinary, and Musculoskeletal.

FK UPH also sent other teams for other branches, including Neuropsychiatry team with Stella Angelina (batch 2016) and Jesslyn Natalie Hariyanto (batch 2016); Digestive team with Steven Nanda (batch 2016) and Cindy (batch 2017); Tropical Infection team with Moses Leonardo (batch 2016) and Steven William Halim (batch 2016); Genitourinary team with Christian Murtani (batch 2016) and Yonesha Rahmania Prasetya (batch 2016); and Musculoskeletal team with Livia Taniwangsa (batch 2016) and Angeline Tancherla (batch 2017). The three of them, namely Digestive, Neuropsychiatry, and Tropical Infection teams, were able to become the semi-finalists.

These students were able to gain valuable experience and also very proud to be a part of this prestigious competition. For Anthony Yusuf and Jessica Anastasia, the 2nd winner in RMO 2019, to be able to take part in this competition & make UPH proud was an honor.

“I feel very honored for this achievement. This opportunity has encouraged me to compete soundly with participants from the other universities. Obviously, this kind of experience in a competition is very useful for me because I become more updated about current science development and the most definitive information, especially about the competition I participated in, the Cardio-Respiratory,” said Anthony.

Jessica also admitted that the competition has broadened her knowledge and understanding.

“It is an honor to be able to give a little contribution to the Faculty. Besides, the competition also gave me a valuable lesson and experience. We were able to obtain the most updated information about new cases and learn from the experts. Moreover, our soft skills were challenged. We had the chance to establish networking, and for me, personally, I was able to practice my mentality here,” said Jessica.

For the two, this achievement would be impossible without the support and encouragement from their lecturers in FK UPH who supported, equipped them with academic abilities, and prepare them mentally for the competition.

Hopefully, in line with the objectives of RMO, students of UPH Medicine who participated in this competition can develop their skills and talent, broaden their knowledge, gain experience, and establish networking with students from other universities. Following their participation in RMO 2019, the representatives from FK UPH will also join “IMO 2019” on October 19-20, 2019, in Denpasar, Bali.
