UPH Prepares Students to Face the Implementation of 5G Technology in Indonesia.
Cellular technology never ceases to grow to facilitate all aspects of human life. This time, the 5G technology becomes a huge leap for wireless device technology with speed that is 10 times than its predecessor, the 4G technology. In order to facilitate the discussion about this important issue, the Electrical Engineering Department of UPH held ?Science-Tech Colloquium? on March 13, 2020, at UPH Lippo Village to talk about the spectrum management and the implementation of 5G technology in Indonesia.
This event invited Dr. Denny Setiawan, S.T., M.T. – Acting Deputy Director-General for Spectrum Policy and Planning, Directorate of Spectrum Policy and Planning, Directorate General of Resources and Standard, Ministry of Communications and IT of Indonesia as a key speaker, and was also attended by staffs, lecturers, and students of Faculty of Science and Technology UPH (batch 2017-2018).
?Spectrum is the resources used by the communication system, including cellular technology. As we have known, cellular technology has been developing rapidly this past decade, starting with 1G and now we are moving on to 5G. With this development, a bigger spectrum is needed in order to facilitate this 5G technology. In another word, the spectrum is a virtual pathway that enables technology to walk. Right now, Indonesia is preparing for this new development. It will probably take about one to two years for Indonesia to prepare 5G for mass use,? Denny explained.
Moreover, with speed 10 times faster than the previous 4G, 5G technology also has less delay, a more sensitive and sensible sensor, as well as a better response.
?With the power of 5G technology, we will be able to help many industries. For example, we might have an on-line medical consultation application or hologram technology to support online learning. In addition to that, the 5G technology can help Indonesia to develop its own auto-drive featured transportation,? said Denny.
As a higher education institution, UPH bears the expectation to prepare excellent human resources for the nation. Therefore, UPH has always tried its best to live up to this by equipping its students with three elemental things: technology, economy, and business model. In other words, the ability to master multi-discipline.
?Higher education institutions should encourage its students to hone their analytical skills, especially in looking out for opportunities in applying 5G technologies. In addition to that, we can?t forget to collaborate one study program with another. This collaboration will encourage students to create new innovations, especially that involves 5G,? he stated.
