Music Camp Invites Middle Schoolers to Learn Exciting Music Over Summer Holidays.
Music Camp is an event first held by UPH Conservatory of Music (CoM) that gives middle school (SMP) students and high school (SMA) students the opportunity to fill their holiday schedules by learning music. Music Camp was held from 2 to 5 July 2019 at Building B ? Jl. M.H. Thamrin Boulevard Raya 1100, Universitas Pelita Harapan Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang. The uniqueness offered by the Music Camp is a learning experience worthy of a music student of UPH Conservatory of Music.
Music Camp has 19 SMP participants who came from various schools such as Global Jaya School, Penabur Kelapa Gading, Penabur Gading Serpong, Bina Bangsa School, SMPK Gloria Surabaya, SMA St. Joseph Pangkal Pinang, SMA Talenta Bandung, and SMA Petra 2 Surabaya.
For four days, participants learned about their chosen musical instruments and received musical knowledge, such as how to produce music. At the end of the lessons, there was a showcase to show the fruits of their four-day studies. This is a practice in self-confidence for the students.
Taught by 10 to 15 instructors, who are professors skilled in their majors at UPH CoM, students will learn about Sound Design, Pop and Jazz Performance, Classical Performance, and Musical Composition. The learning session will be divided into two sessions; From morning until lunchtime, participants are in classes learning about musical theory. From lunchtime until afternoon, participants learn their instruments one-on-one so that they will be focused throughout the learning process.
The peak, as well as the end, of Music Camp, is the showcase. The showcase started by violin, piano, electric guitar, and cello showcases. It was continued by participants gifted in singing (Vocal).
Few of the musical pieces are classical, rather than contemporary or modern, of which are: Silent Night by Franz Xaver Gruber, La Pastorale by J.F. Burgmuler, and many other classical pieces.
With Music Camp, it is expected that participants will receive insight and new knowledge about music from the professors of UPH CoM.
Freiya, a 12th Grade student of Bina Bangsa, said, ?In Music Camp, as a contemporary vocalist, learned many things, because the instructors have experience and accurate techniques.?
Students are also taught how to produce a good song.
Lisette, a participant from Bandung, explained, ?After participating the Music Camp, I am more interested in entering a music university and I was the most excited in the music production class because I was taught something new, which is how to create better music.?
