Mentorship Time at UPH Festival 25.

Mentoring is a special program devised by Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) aimed to help new students adapt to university life to become individuals that can really develop on campus. The mentorship program started at UPH Festival and will continue on for one year. UPH Festival, which was held on August 15-18, 2018, reserves a session each day for Mentorship Time, where mentors and their mentees can get to know each other.

The mentoring program officially runs for one year, but this does not mean the relationship between mentors and mentees (by name for new students) ends just yet.

To ensure the well-running of the mentoring program, Head Mentors are elected each year to be responsible for the Chief Mentors election. Chief Mentors will then elect their Mentors.

Preparing new students for college is a lot of work; therefore, before the new students arrive on campus, mentors went through several training sessions. These sessions help mentors to understand their role as ?People Growers? ? the mentors are people who should guide their mentees to grow for God?s glory.

Here are some testimonials on the Mentorship Time during UPH Festival 25:

Kezia Gebby, Management 2015 (Head Mentor)
?Mentors are assigned to help the new students for one year ? on paper. In reality, mentoring probably runs for more than a year ? it?s a lifestyle. I decided to become a Head Mentor because I was called to. At first, I didn?t really think about it that way, but after going through all the training, I was reminded of my initial goal ? my calling.?

Iko Viktor Maranedi, Biology Education 2016 (Chief Mentor)
?In UPH, especially in the Teachers College (TC) faculty, the mentoring system is needed because students come from a lot of different places. Through mentoring, we can help everyone grow together at the same pace. I wanted to become a Chief Mentor because this is my ministry, and because I think mentoring is really something special.

Hans Reinaldy, Electronic Engineering 2017 (Mentor)
?I wanted to be a mentor because I like to build relationships with new people, but most importantly, I decided to become a mentor because I want to help the new students ? every university has their orientation program, and that?s where mentors come into play ? we help the students get familiar with a new and different environment.

Septia Marta Munthe, English Language Education 2017 (Mentor)
?There is something special about becoming a mentor. It?s not about our position ? it?s the fact that we get to become a role model for other people. For those who live in the dormitory, this is especially crucial because a mentor can guide students on adapting in everyday life and also academically. I believe that through mentoring, I can be God?s vessel to show His glory.?

Morgan Lorentz Wijaya (Mentee)

?I really enjoy UPH Festival ? all its events are entertaining and my mentor is really a kind person. I feel like mentoring will really help when going through college, and I believe that mentoring is not a one-year program ? it will continue on after that.?

Sarah Inka & Lau Gra, Teachers College 2018 (Mentee)
?Before arriving here, we have known that UPH has a mentoring system, but we didn?t think that we will spend so much time with our mentor. We have known our mentor for about a week, and we have been really blessed through her, who acts as a sharing partner and someone who can help us with our problems.
