UPH Festival 25 DGS: Encouraging the Nation?s Unity and Contributing to the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) organizes the UPH Festival 25 as a celebration of new students of the 2018 batch. On the first day, August 15, 2018, UPH invited two ministers, Drs. Enggartiasto Lukita, Minister of Trade, and Ir. Airlangga Hartarto, M.B.A., M.M.T., the Minister of Industry, in the Distinguished Guest Speaker (DGS) session held in the basketball court of UPH Lippo Village.

The session began with the participants singing Indonesia?s national anthem, Indonesia Raya, followed by a welcoming by the rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng. Sc., who led some 3500 new students at UPH Lippo Village to welcome the two Distinguished Guest Speakers along with UPH leaders, lecturers, and staff. Dr. Mochtar Riady, the founder of Lippo Group, is also present in the event.

In his statement, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. announced that the number of new students accepted by UPH in the 2018/2019 academic year reaches a number of 4.600, including those in the Medan and Surabaya campuses. ?UPH offers a full scholarship for teachers (in the Faculty of Education) and for the Faculty of Nursing, and UPH always welcomes students from all over Indonesia. This resonates in UPH?s signature message: One UPH,? the Rector said.

Drs. Enggartiasto Lukita encourages students to study hard and give a contribution to the nation.

?You are in one of the best private universities in the country. Because of that, you have to aim to contribute to your nation,? Enggartiasto explained, while also reminding the younger generation to be more aware of the current events happening in the country.

?Stimulate the students to ask questions. This will show that they care about events happening in our nation. Never waste time ignoring issues that do not involve you yourselves. Networking is necessary ? whatever profession you will have in the future, you have to think about the contribution you can make,? she added.

Drs. Enggartiasto Lukita also stated that Indonesia has currently established trade agreements with a lot of other countries; therefore, the chance of collaborating internationally is not far off. However, she also reminds the nation?s citizens to always encourage unity within the nation, and this starts from maintaining the unity of the university in which the students study.

Ir. Airlangga Hartanto, M.B.A., M.M.T. shared one of the ways through which the students can contribute to the country ? the 4.0 Industrial Revolution. This era is nicknamed the Internet of Things and means that it is entering a computerized system. Indonesia is relatively behind in this regard because personal computers (PCs) are not as widely used as smartphones.

However, he added that Indonesia is part of the G20 countries and is the country with the sixteenth biggest economy in the world. It is the aim that by 2030, Indonesia can be in the top 10.

?When that time comes, all you students should be able to lead Indonesia. We hope that job opportunities will be more abundant, for this can help better our economic state,? Airlangga explained.

He also mentioned the establishment of Apple Academy in Indonesia, which is the first Apple Academy in Asia. This is a chance to Empower the Human Talent of Indonesia?s younger generation. Indonesia has also prepared the five main sectors of industry, namely food and beverage, clothing (textile and fashion), automotive, chemistry, and electronics, to face the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.

At the end of his session, Ir. Airlangga Hartarto, M.B.A., M.M.T. also emphasizes the importance of having national characters that should be possessed by every citizen: NKRI (the Republic of Indonesia), Pancasila, UUD 1945 (the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia), and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.

This event ended after a question and answer session between the new students and the Minister of Industry. the Rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., hopes that this enrichment by the two ministers in UPH Festival can encourage students to contribute positively to the nation albeit the many challenges that they will face in the future.
