Campus Life Introduction UPH Festival 25 Helps New Students Adapt to Campus Life.

On August 15, 2018, the first day of UPH Festival 25, the new students undergo the Campus Life Introduction, a program designed for new students to help them better adapt to the university dynamics. The students are introduced to UPH leaders, faculty leaders, facilities in UPH, and student-led organizations that contribute to the fulfillment of UPH?s vision of holistic education.

The event begins with a video of the Rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., enthusiastically welcoming the new students and advising them to grow in faith as well as intellectually.

The students are then introduced to the facilities in UPH ? the Johannes Oentoro Library, UPH?s tuition system, the clinic, sports facilities, and many others.

They are then especially introduced to the Faculty of Liberal Arts (FLA) by the Executive Dean of FLA, Matthew R. Malcolm. Ph.D. He explained why FLA UPH is different from any other course in any other campus ? it gives the students an opportunity to have a comprehensive knowledge on a broad range of fields, not just the major they signed up for.

In FLA, students will also have the opportunity to join the community service program, where students can put everything they have learned in classes to practice. This, explains Dr. Malcolm, will ensure that the students don?t learn theoretical knowledge, but really gives an impact to the society.

Campus Life Introduction then proceeded with an orientation of student-led organizations in UPH (UKMs). The students are encouraged to actively participate in UKMs that support their talent and passions. The Student Life department continually ensures that the UKMs available in UPH can accommodate the development of all its students? passions and potentials.

The UKM introduction piques the interest of a lot of new students. Angel Cristina, a student of School of Design, admits to being interested in joining the Pelita Harapan Photography Club (PHPC).

Students from the Conservatory of Music, Terry Cornelius, Yemima Madeline, and Marlina Sydney, show great enthusiasm towards the variety of UKMs.?

I?m really interested in the Art Band and music production UKMs. I played in a band in high school, and I want to join a band community on campus as well,? said one new student.

After the Campus Life Introduction, the new students will continue the UPH Festival 25 up until the Closing Ceremony and Fireworks on August 18, 2018.
