On Thursday, March 15, 2012, UPH Career Center in cooperation with Panin Bank held a career seminar for UPH students and graduates who wish to know the industry and the after-college life. Martinus Leonard, Panin Bank HR, helped more that 50 participants who came to the event solve the puzzle about the life at work.
Martinus explained that company faced many problems nowadays. There were mismatched between supply and demand that made the employment needs of company did not meet the qualification of the applicants. ?Although there are many people looking for a job, the company always complains that they cannot get the qualified employees,? he stated. Moreover, with financial crisis happening in western countries, Indonesians had to compete with western people too in finding a job. Graduates then had to prepare themselves very well in order to secure their place in the industry. The applicants should understand what the company is looking for. The company wanted applicants who possess skills and work experiences. With this in mind, the applicants should start developing their career planning. Career planning is a continuous process to prepare a career track. Career planning is a cycle starting with self-assessment (setting long term goals, knowing your interest, determining personal values, and needs), considering external suggestions, exploring ourselves, deciding the job, and evaluating the process. Martinus also reminded that the major you took at the college should not determine your work field. ?College taught us to think analytical, understand concept, perform ideas, and develop our character,? he told. However, a person who frequently switches job will not impress the HR team. He told the participants to manage their career well. (dee) UPH Media Relations |
