Some say if you don’t know it then you won?t love it. This proverb perhaps prevails among UPH students. Many students do not know about various types of Student Activity Unit in UPH. Actually, every new student has been introduced with Student Activity Unit programs in the orientation at UPH Festival. However, due to limited time, not all programs can be introduced clearly. The existence of Student Activity Unit established in 2008 is not only to develop talents and interests of students, but also as a part of holistic education applied at UPH. According to Johannes Tong, Director of UPH Art, Art is a powerful gift from God, which should be used as a cultural mandate to serve the Lord. Therefore, Student Activity Unit that initially consisted of 4 units, have developed into 12 units. In general Student Activity Unit is divided into two groups, activities related to students? hobbies and performance. “Especially, the performing arts requires a higher commitment and intensive practice?, said Vinsensia, Staff of Art Department, who interacts with students everyday. In order to introduce and promote the 12 Student Activity Units, on 26 April 2011 Department of Art held a “Performance Art”, which is also an annual event of the Art Department. “The strength of this event is collaboration. So, how to collaborate all the elements, such as: vocal, dance, band, gamelan, violin, cello, and others to create a masterpiece, “said Johannes Tong. The one-hour event held on UPH also featured fashion show from Miss UPH Scholar 2010 and 2011, Maria Rahajeng and Han Yoo-Ra, and the finalists. (pty) UPH Media Relations. |
