31st Asian Medical Students? Conference in Indonesia by UI and UPH.

The 31st AMSA will be held on the 25th July until 1st August 2010. This year Indonesia is chosen as the host, and the Faculty of Medicine of UI and UPH are appointed as the committee.

The 31st Asian Medical Students? Association will be held on the 25th July until 1st August 2010. This year Indonesia is chosen as the host, and the Faculty of Medicine of UI and UPH are appointed as the committee. The 31st AMSA is chaired by Gito Restiansyah Wasian (UI) and the vice chairman is Andi Dianti (UPH).

The total number of participants is about 500 people, and they are the representatives of medical students from 17 countries around the world: Australia, Bangladesh, United Kingdom, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Palestine, People Republic of China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Ukraine. Each delegate will follow the program simultaneously; they are not only from one campus, but could be from various campuses in a country.

This annual event has a theme ?Geriatric Medicine: Comprehensive Approaches for a Better Quality of Life?, which discusses about the treatment for elderly people, that is estimated to be increasing each year.

During the week this event will be filled with various academic, social, city tour, and cultural programs and activities. The activities in the academic field are such as general lecturer, discussion, and competition. The competitions are among others: photo competition, poster competition, video competition, scientific paper, and plenary. The participants are to visit several hospitals like Siloam Hospital-Kebon Jeruk and Karawaci, Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusumo, RS Fatmawati, RS Harapan Kita, RS Darmais, also some nursing homes (Panti Werdha).

City tour is done together to explore more about Jakarta, like visiting the National Monument (Monas), Fatahillah Museum, Bank Indonesia Museum, Gajah Museum, and Wayang Museum. All participants will also be introduced to some Indonesian cultures through exhibition, traditional dance, and also workshops in some local crafts.

This information was given during the press conference that was held on Saturday (24/7) in the Anatomi Room, Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia, Salemba Raya Road No. 6, Central Jakarta 10430, at 09.30-10.00 am. According to Gito Restiansyah Wasian, this event ? that is followed by 17 countries ? will bring a positive outcome in developing education, as well as enhancing the relationship among countries, especially in the field of medicine.

The opening program is done in UPH, on Sunday, 25th July 2010, started with the Ice Breaking activity and then continued with a Welcoming Party. (oas)
