UPH Rector Asks All New Students? Parents to Support the Learning Process

On the fourth day of UPH Festival 25, Saturday, August 19, 2018 the parents attended Parents Gathering event. Located at UPH Building C, Grand Chapel 6th and 7th Floor, this event aimed to provide information to parents of the new students. This time, UPH Rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak M.Sc.Eng became the main speaker of Parents Gathering.

In his speech, the Rector delivered a message from the Director General of Ministry of Research and Technology about ?4C? that must be applied in Indonesia. Those 4C are Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration. But specifically for UPH, there is one additional C, that is Christ Centered.

“UPH is an institution based on Christian faith, so our education is also based on the Christian faith. The fifth C is important to support the students during the learning process at UPH. Our vision for the future is to be an eminent college. The target is to outplay in Asia in 2030,” he added.

On this opportunity, UPH Rector emphasized that UPH applied a holistic and transformative education. Students are expected not only to develop academically, but also to grow spiritually according to the religion they embrace.

Furthermore, the Rector said that now UPH has become one, One UPH, with about 20.000 students. This unification of UPH located at several places – Tangerang, Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan – certainly supported by discipline and compliance with the rules determined by the government, especially the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti).

To all the students? parents, the Rector asked them to participate in monitoring their children?s life activities, inside and outside campus. Equally important is the support of parents in the teaching and learning process, for example is to know the progression of the children’s scores. Therefore the parents were asked to be active in responding the notices from UPH. Do not be late and cause things that are not desirable later on.

At the end of the explanation, the Rector expressed his gratitude to the parents who have chosen UPH as the place to teach knowledge for their children. “Hopefully, in the future they can become leaders with integrity, and have the competence to communicate and be able to think critically,” he concluded.

Parents Gathering event was also filled with the introduction of rector officials and faculty leaders to students’ parents. In the same way there was an information about non-academic support units at UPH, that is the Registrar and Finance Department. This event was closed with a question and answer session and prizes which took place lively. (it)
