UPH Festival is an annual event held by Universitas Pelita Harapan to welcome the new students, as well as a form of Open House for High School students who want to continue their studies to the higher education level. In order to provide more information for these High School students, UPH held an Academic Showcase on August 15018, 2018 at the Main Campus, UPH Karawaci.
UPH Academic Showcase presented information from all the majors available in UPH. The showcase was divided into three clusters, Art, Social, and Science.
In the Social cluster of Academic Showcase there are several majors namely the Communication Sciences major, International Relation, Psychology, Accounting, Management, Law, Hospitality, Tourism as well as the Teachers College.
The Communication Sciences major held a showcase of its students? projects as well as a model of the room layout that they use such as the news reporting studio.
?We make this kind of concept so that the High School students are interested to come to our booth and to now the Communication Sciences major, we also want them to understand that this major is not merely about ?communicating?, but just as we have shown here in our booth, we also have the TV Studio Lab, Radio lab, and numerous projects of our students,? said Steven Christian, Communication Sciences (2017).
The students who came to the Communicatino Sciences booth were given the opportunity to become a news anchor. Most of them admitted that this was their first experience, that?s why the Academic Showacse in UPH is a very interesting event, especially with the unique concepts given by each major.
At the same time, the International Relation major presented their MUN (Model United Nations) club, which support the students to follow the MUN competition, encourage them to accomplish achievements, and also a club which functions as a place for students to channel their debating skill and abilities for the community. MUN has almost became a routine that has been followed for several times by International Relation UPH who has represented Indonesia in International level for several times. This club was created by the students of International Relation UPH who have now became an alumnus.
Moreover, the Faculty of Psychology UPH also created an interesting booth. They presented the students? projects and works such as, Psychology books, photo booth, Frequently Asked Question (FAQ), and they also have their own theme for this year?s showcase.
Angelia Agustin, a student of the Psychology (2016) major, explained that this year?s theme is ?I am Smart? which explained the ?8 Multiple Intelligences? that shows how each person?s intelligence can come in different kinds of field.
?Through this showcase, we are able to help students to find out the suitable major for them, and we can also show prospective careers that might be suitable for them,? Angelia added.
The Faculty of Law also took part by showing a number of their Student Activity Units (UKM) such as, debate club, and the sports club. The Hospitality and Tourism Management Faculty (STTPH) of UPH also participated in the Academic Showcase by creating an exhibition of the students? works in Kitchen, Pastry, Resto, Bar, Guestroom and FO. All of the guests that visited their booth are welcomed really warmly and they were able to obtain all the information they needed.
