In the second day of UPH Festival 25 held on August 15-18, 2018, UPH holds an Academic Showcase for High School students participating in the UPH Campus Tour.
UPH holds the Academic Showcase to exhibit and promote its study programs to high school students. This event, held in UPH Lippo Village, is intended to show an empirical output from each study program so that the high school students looking to continue their higher studies in UPH can get a clear view of what is to be expected.
The Academic Showcase is divided into 3 clusters: Art, Social, and Science. The Art cluster is again divided into two, the School of Design (SoD) and Conservatory of Music (CoM) clusters.
UPH CoM held its Academic Showcase in the fourth floor of the B building. They prepared 7 booths, each for one major offered in UPH CoM: Classical Performance, Music Composition, Music Education, Jazz & Pop Performance, Music Therapy, Performing Arts Production and Management (PAPM), and Sound Design.
?Our Performance major has two focuses: Classical Performance and Jazz & Pop Performance. The Performance focus doesn?t post a booth; we set up a stage for people to enjoy our music and see what the Performance focus is all about,? Aryo from CoM 2016 explained.
UPH CoM also offers the Music Therapy study focus, which is seldom found in other universities. Music therapy is just like any other therapy, except it uses music as its therapy ? stroke, dementia, and Alzheimer therapy. UPH Music Therapy has its own therapy clinic in the fourth floor of building B. People of all ages have tried this therapy because music therapy is perceived as more enjoyable than other kinds of therapy.
Music Composition is another study focus that garnered much attention. Music Composition is the science of combining and arranging musical elements to make a musical piece.
?In Music Composition, there are 6 key roles that we have to learn: composer, arranger, conductor, transcriber, orchestrator, and film scoring. I personally love film scoring the most ? I find it really enjoyable to compose soundtracks for films. Our workload is pretty heavy, but I enjoy my time in Music Composition ? every major has its own ups and downs, anyway,? said Roban, a Music Composition student of the 2015 batch.
UPH School of Design also holds its own exhibition, featuring the Architecture, Interior Design, Visual Communication Design, and Product Design majors, all in the SoD MPR and Pelita Shop, in the first floor of building B. All the pieces exhibited are carefully selected from the collection of works by UPH SoD students.
