Grace Tandi, Law student from batch 2009, said that she was very grateful to be able to get the opportunity to join Student Exchange program at Handong Global University, one of the best universities in Korea. “When I started college, I always wanted to go and study abroad. That’s why I chose UPH,” said Grace. The dream drives her to always look for scholarships or student exchange programs to study abroad. “When I found out that the cooperation between UPH and a university in Korea offered a scholarship, I went to UPH International Office right away. The process was very quick, just around two months, because the new semester was about to start. I went there for the Odd Semester of 2011/2012 academic year,” she told.

Fees were all covered by the scholarship grant. That included airfares, allowance, accommodation, and meal. The student only paid for UPH tuition fee. “I was really thankful. Both UPH and Handong are very cooperative,” said Grace.

“I studied a lot there, for instance Korean language, Communiy and Leadership Training, US and International Business Law, Korean Law and Legal System, Law and Contemporary Issues. Three of the subjects taken were law as I studied law at UPH. In terms of academic aspect, I obtained valuable knowledge that broaden my knowledge in international law that I did not get at UPH. Also I studied other things such as language, leadership, and culture. In spirituality, I also learned more because Handong is a Christian university that strictly applies Christian principles,” she explained.

Grace said that the way she studied there was almost the same as how she studied here at UPH. The administration system was also the same. What differentiates UPH with Handong was how the students of Handong were very competitive. They prefered studying in the library while in UPH, the students prefer to study at home.

There were many orientation programs that students must attend and they were all fun. The program introduced her to Korean culture and strengthened the relationship between the students who came from various countries. “I did not find any difficulties there. The university people were very friendly and always ready to help,” mentioned Grace.

“This student exchange program is very beneficial and worthy. I encourage everyone to use this opportunity. Although I only spent one semester, I gained so many benefits from the programs,” she added. (rh)
