This educational talk is a form of community service as well as a means to educate. According to Gwendolyn Ingrid Utama, S.H., M.H., Faculty of Law, who is Chairman of the steering committee of this educational talk, it is important to provide an understanding of bullying to children from an early age. “Judging from the news that there is, bullying can even start starting from early childhood stage. Perhaps bullying among teenagers is more shown, but without realizing it, it is a seed that is growing due to their experience in childhood, “said Gwen.

Participants of this education are the parents, teachers and local residents who were estimated to reach a total of 100 people. “Parents are the primary target for this educational talk, because education starts with family first and then school. So if the parents are not equipped to provide the true teaching for their children, the bullying will continue,” said Gwen again. The educational talk was hosted by Faculty of Law, which is the Criminal Expert Dr. Agus Budianto, S.H., M. Hum., Which addresses bullying from the perspective of ‘Actors’/?Doers? while Dr. Christine Susanti, S.H., M. Hum., from the standpoint of ‘victim’.

Dr. Agus explained that although the perpetrators are children, but there is still no legal consequences. Furthermore, he also explained that the perpetrators were not the one that only performs, but also the ‘participating’. “Participating means supporting the bully or who knew and saw, but do not do anything, in the sense to defend, intervene or report,” said Agus. It also describes the punishment is certainly different between children with an adult sentence because of the basic notion of punishment by the state is that every citizen is being responsible and is able to account for his actions. While the children are recognized as individuals who cannot be fully responsible for their actions, so the punishment given essentially must continue to prioritize the sake of the child.

While counseling is held, the children are given education about bullying that is packaged in a game by a representative of the Student Senate of Faculty of Law who also donate and create playgrounds for children of early childhood education Akhlaqul Karimah.

“Through this event, we hope to educate parents and teachers and they can spread the education to families, neighbors or anyone else, so bullying, especially among children does not happen again,” said Gwen. (Fc/mf)
