UPH School of Design hosted Buka Buku ?7 Arsitek Indonesia? by Peter Yogan Gandakusuma and Murni Khuarizmi, Puspa Swara publisher on Friday, August 28, 2015, at 9 am-12 pm Building B Universitas Pelita Harapan. The event attended by approximately 150 participants that consisted of students and lecturers of UPH School of Design was a direct discussion about 7 Arsitek Indonesia, which was divided into two sessions. The speakers in the discussion are the academicians and professional architect such as Martin Luqman Katoppo (dosen Desain Produk SoD), Stanley Wangsa (dosen Arsitektur SoD), Ign. Susiadi Wibowo, dan Ariko Andikabina, moderated by both of the authors.

The first session talked about responsive and calculated by Martin Luqman Katoppo and Stanley Wangsa, with Peter Yogan Gandakusuma as moderator. The academicians discussed about the topic from their own perspectives based on each field. According to Stanley, in each project, the material and its background are very important. On the other side, Martin shared that the most important thing for each project is the way to inhabit it. ?Do not rush and trapped in the physical form, but how we inhabit it is the most important thing,? Martin said. Stanley shared that a space is the place to negotiate. ?Meanwhile, geometry or form belongs to architecture,? he added. Both of the speakers? talks complemented each other. Stanley concluded that the design project was the controller of all issues.

Furthermore, Murni Khuarizmi moderated the second session by Ign. Susiadi Wibowo and Ariko Andikabina. On the second session, the discussion was centered on the importance of essence compared to the space itself. When given the space project, it is required a courage to redefine the space due to certain values. If we are smart in interpreting the phenomena, the different models of houses will be produced. According to Ariko, a space without inhabitant will not have a meaning. If a space is inhabited and enjoyed by people, the project is successful. Adi said that to produce an interesting design idea, we have to argue with ourselves, discuss with friends, lecturers, neighbors, and others. If we stop arguing and discussing, the result must be uninteresting. ?Architecture project is a project that records the previously absorbed information. If the absorbed information is lacking, the result will also be lacking. The thing that makes an architect is the passion to design,? Adi shared.

The discussion was closed with the summary by Murni and Peter. Through the theory and practice of the speakers, the UPH SoD students, especially the new students gained broader knowledge about architecture and design world. (nn)
