Stunning and mesmerizing are two words that can describe the performance of Bhayangkara Wind Orchestra in collaboration with Conservatory of Music (CoM) Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) on Gala Concert ?Bersama Membangun Bangsa? that was held on the second day of UPH Festival 22, Aguust 20, 2015 at 4-6 p.m. at Grand Chapel Universitas Pelita Harapan.
Bhayangkara Wind Orchestra (BWO) is the orchestra of POLRI (Kepolisian Negara Republik Indonesia), music program executive in POLRI. Besides taking responsibility in states duty, BWO also serves music activity in POLRI tradition development, national ceremony, entertainment programs, several ASEAN Pol events in domestic or foreign, and also concerts. BWO consists of 56 members where some of them are art graduates from ISI (Institusi Seni Indonesia) Yogyakarta.
Meanwhile CoM UPH presented professional vocalists to collaborate with BWO, namely Trio RAMs (Ridolf Hehanusa, Classical Vocal lecturer of CoM UPH, Antonius Sugeng, Dean of CoM UPH and Manlian Ronald, Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology and Head Committee of UPH Festival 22), Julianne Olson and Nathan (Lecturer of CoM UPH from USA who had just arrived in Jakarta). The Gala Concert was opened with a song entitled Novena, the artwork of legendary classic musician and continued with opening speech by Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak. The Rector welcomed KAPOLRI, Jendral Polisi Drs. Badrodin Haiti and the heads of POLRI that were present in Gala Concert with honor and great pleasure.
Rector shared that the presence of Bhayangkara Wind Orchestra gave energy to UPH Conservatory of Music. He also shared that the education in UPH is always consistently holistic. According to the education law, this means paying attention on moral, character, spiritual aspect and academic aspect of education. ?That is why in UPH we provide Conservatory of Music for the students to experience a holistic education. We want to create a music culture in campus, sport, spiritual aspect, and other non-academic aspects that can support students? education,? he said. Lastly, he shared that it was an honor to welcome KAPOLRI and heads of POLRI, in collaborating and enjoying a beautiful musical performance from Bhayangkara Wind Orchestra.
Badrodin delivered a message to new students in orientation of UPH Festival 22, to be serious in campus life, to fill it with knowledge and talents, because students are the next generation of this nation, the hope of this nation. He also expected the new students to obey UPH policies and stay away from drugs. ?I am grateful that UPH is a discipline and firm campus in shaping the students to obey the rule. Forbidding students to smoke and use drugs is a very good step. There are 43 people die everyday because of drugs. Who will fight against this? Only police? No, everyone should take a part in fighting against drugs,? Badrodin added.
