Starting his description of an ideal law education, John underlined the purpose of law education. He mentioned that there are two kinds of law education purpose ? absolute and contextual. The absolute purpose of law education is to become the social engineers. ?This is the main purpose. Because of that, the profession and educators of law is given the responsibility to limit and to overcome the human sinful nature, and also to create a civilization where human true creativity, innovation, and potential can be highlighted and perfected,? said John.
Law education is facing the challenges of post-modern philosophy or view ? where human placed theirselves as the center. This situation causes the boundaries between right and wrong, fair and unfair become hazy. To restore the function of law practitioner that is more valuable and constructive, law education must return to this profession perception ? as a calling.
The contextual purpose of law education is to become law practitioners who are able to reflect the ?real world? and multi-disciplinary perspectives. This is because, nowadays, technical ability only is not enough to produce a successful law bachelor. |
