One of the annual events in welcoming the new students at UPH Festival is the meeting with the Founder of Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) – Dr. (HC) James T. Riady. In this event, students could receive sharing session about his experience.
In this opportunity (24/8), James shared a lot of his experience about developing God?s calling and the biggest talent that he has. ?You have to follow the biggest talent that has been given. From there, we could compete to reach higher and to achieve the highest satisfaction,? he explained. In regards to his statement, James was very moved and touched by Minister of Health ? Dr. Nafsiah Mboi, SpA. M.P.H.?s life struggle that was shared on last Thursday (22/8) Distinguished Guest Speaker session.
James also reminded the students always to have aim, vision and a good dream, live a structured and systematic life, and uncluttered style of life ? because vision and dream cannot happen without any support from a well-structured life. ?This is the element that makes UPH different with other universities. Here in UPH, we have the Faculty of Liberal Art ? FLA. FLA is important, we want to give you abilities that could be transferred,? he added. FLA is one of UPH Faculties that have compulsory classes for all of UPH students. Several classes that are included in FLA are Character Development, Leadership, Critical Thinking, Ethics, and others. These classes help students to shape their characters as well as abilities so that students are not only excelling in academic fields but also a good life structure to achieve their dreams.
After the meeting session with James T. Riady, School of Design 2013?s student, Christian, expressed his response. He was very impressed with the struggle of UPH Founder. The lesson from his session is in every hard works, one must always close with God by praying to Him. Meanwhile according to Janis ? Faculty of Medicine 2013, ?What interest me is that it is not about academic and money only, but also the relation with others especially with family.? (YM)
