?As time goes on, music appreciation in Indonesia is getting better and better. Many concerts, competitions, and music schools indicate heightened awareness of music in our society. The Conservatory of Music UPH wants to take a lead in advancing the quality level of classical music in Indonesia by implementing numerous international standards in our national competition?, said Ridolf Hehanussa, B.C.M., the Acting Dean of Conservatory of Music UPH.

UPH Conservatory of Music strives to bring a high-level music education in Indonesia, and this 5th National Piano Competition was no exception. This competition was not just about wining or losing, but it was a great educational and learning opportunity for Indonesian young pianists. In this competition, the pianists would have opportunities to speak and communicate with the judges and ask for their guidance and opinions. All of the judges were highly qualified, such as: Iswargia Sudarno, who has appeared as a soloist with leading Indonesia’s orchestras and has performed in many countries in Asia; Alfred Situmorang, who has performed on the 1st Asean International Piano Competition in Kuala Lumpur as a piano soloist; and Mario Santoso, who has been active giving recitals, seminars, and masterclass since 2001.

UPH 5th National Piano Competition 2012 was held on Monday, 16 June 2012 until Friday, 22 June 2012. It was attended by 50 participants from 3 categories. There were 9 participants from Kinder Division, 16 participants from Junior Division, and 25 participants from Senior Division.

?For every competition, there must be winners, but it is not the matter of winning and losing. You will gain invaluable experience, face a precious lesson, and achieve maturity, those all will be priceless treasures?, said Yuberg Andro, the Event Director.
