Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Pelita Harapan (STPPH) and Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) signed an MOU in the ?double degree? program for STPPH Diploma IV students majoring in hospitality, Thursday (11/2) at UPH. The actual cooperation has been going on for about 6 years now, but it was limited to undergraduate-student-transfer program only. ?The classes at STPPH are similar to those at overseas universities, such as SNHU and some others, so our students who are accepted in those universities could directly continue their study without having to retake classes,? said Amelda Pramezwary, Head of Department ? Tourism Management.
?Students who are joining this program would finish their study for 3 years at STPPH, then 1 more year at SNHU. Upon completion they will obtain two degrees, e.g. BASHA (Bachelor of Applied Science in Hospitality Administration) from SNHU, and D IV (Sarjana Sains Terapan) from STPPH, ? explained Drs. Demson RH. Goeltom, M.Pd., the Dean of STPPH. This MOU will be in effect for three years and will be renewed continually. A good and long lasting cooperation between the two institutions has been a main reason for SNHU realizing this ?double degree? program with STPPH. ?This is one of the schools that we know has excellent tourism & hospitality programs,? said Steven Harvey, Ph.D, the International Admission Director.
Other overseas universities that have been in cooperation with STPPH are International Hotel Management Institute, Switzerland and Bournemouth University, UK. ?The plan is, those two universities will also advance the cooperation by running the ?double degree? program starting next April,? added Demson. He also added that in about six years of cooperation, STPPH has sent seven students to continue their study there or work at American hotels, even though it wasn?t for the ?double degree? program since there hasn?t been any MOU.
In addition, STPPH also cooperates with International Training Network (ITN) located in Los Angeles, USA. ?This year we will send 5th semester students to join trainings in American hotels. Before this, we have sent students to follow trainings in Singapore, Malaysia, as well as in Indonesia. (yun) UPH Media Relations |
