UPH?S Hospitality Managament Department Held Cake and Bakery Exhibition

The Exhibition is also a final exam for the students in Advanced Baking Skills subject.

Hospitality Management Department of UPH held a final exam for students year 2008 by organizing an exhibition of cake and bakery baked entirely by the students.

This final exam becomes one of the conditions for passing?Advanced Baking Skills?subject which aim is to equip the students with excellent baking skill.

?This skill will be very much needed in the hospitality?s professional world in the future,? said Hospitality Management Head of Department, Sandra Maleachi.

In the exam, two factors were examined: creativity and taste. To examine those two things, the hospitality department invited several representations from all UPH faculties and administration staffs to taste and give scores to all the cake and bakery served.

?This makes the scoring fairer and just. We also want to introduce our students? creative skills in baking,? she said.

In the exam that took place from Wednesday (6/05) to Friday (8/05), six groups were competing against each other to get the best score from the judges. There are various cakes and breads served with different themes for each group.

One of the students said that her group needed three days to completely making and decorating five different types of bakery and cake. They also had to limit their spending on the baking materials according to the budget: 1,6 million rupiahs for each group.

The exhibition and exam held every year by Hospitality Management Department of STPPH, ?Every year they show improvement. This year, the result has been better, more elegant, more creative, and more tasty,? said Sandra on complimenting the student?s creations.
